Cognitive Flexibility

noun | [ cog-ni-tive ] [ flex-i-bil-i-ty ]

Cognitive Flexibility is the ability to appropriately adapt our thinking processes and behaviour to face new and unexpected conditions in the environment. This includes the ability to both address and interpret the new situation and restructure our thinking in order to adapt our behavioural strategies accordingly. It is also about knowing when it is appropriate to be broad and expansive in our thinking and when a situation requires detailed and focussed attention.

Greater Cognitive Flexibility is associated with favourable outcomes such as better reading abilities in childhood, higher resilience to negative life events and stress in adulthood, higher levels of creativity in adulthood, and better quality of life in older individuals. Flexible thinking is also considered essential for working with social diversity.

The person will be able to:

  • Change their views when they receive additional information.
  • Approach a problem from a new angle
  • Consider alternative points of view.
  • Handle several sources of information simultaneously.
  • Engage in multiple activities simultaneously.
  • Tolerate confusion and ambiguity.

  • Think up multiple problem-solving strategies.

आकलनविषयक लवचिकता

आपल्या वातावरणातील नवीन आणि अनपेक्षित परिस्थितींशी आपल्या विचार करण्याच्या प्रक्रिया आणि वर्तणूक साजेशा पद्धतीने जुळवून घेता येणे म्हणजे बोधात्मक लवचिकता होय. नवीन परिस्थिती संबोधित करण्याची आणि अर्थ उकल करण्याची क्षमता आणि त्यानुसार आपल्या वर्तन धोरणांचा स्वीकार करण्यासाठी आपल्या विचारांची पुर्नरचना करण्याची क्षमता अशा दोन्ही क्षमतांचा यात समावेश असतो. याचा संबंध आपल्या विचारात व्यापकता आणि विस्तृतपणा आणणे केंव्हा योग्य आहे आणि परिस्थितीवर तपशीलवार लक्ष केंद्रीत करण्याची कधी आवश्यकता आहे हे समजून घेण्याशी सुद्धा आहे.

उच्चत्तम पातळीवरील आकलनविषयक लवचिकता ही अनुकूल निष्पत्तींशी जोडलेली असते. जसे की बालपणी उत्तमतऱ्हेने वाचण्याची क्षमता, प्रौढावस्थेत ताणतणाव आणि नकारात्मक आयुष्यातील घटना यांच्याप्रती उच्चत्तम प्रमाणात लवचिकता, प्रौढावस्थेत महत्तम पातळीवरील निर्मितीक्षमता आणि वयस्कर व्यक्तींमध्ये उत्तम दर्जाचे आयुष्य. सामाजिक पातळीवर वैविध्यपूर्णतेसोबत काम करण्यासाठी लवचिक विचार करण्याचीदेखील गरज असल्याचे लक्षात घेतले पाहिजे.

બોધાત્મકતા લવચિકતા એ એવી ક્ષમતા છે જે આપણને પર્યાવરણમાં નવી અને અણધારી પરિસ્થિતિઓનો સામનો કરવા માટે આપણી વિચાર પ્રક્રિયાઓ અને વર્તનને યોગ્ય રીતે અનુકૂલિત કરવામાં મદદ કરે છે. આમાં નવી પરિસ્થિતિનું અર્થઘટન કરવાની, આપણી વિચાર પ્રક્રિયાઓનું પુનર્ગઠન કરવાની અને પરિસ્થિતિમાં થતા ફેરફારોને અનુરૂપ આપણા વર્તનને અનુકૂલિત કરવાની આપણી ક્ષમતાનો સમાવેશ થાય છે. તે જાણવા વિશે પણ છે કે આપણી વિચારસરણીમાં વ્યાપક અને વિસ્તૃત હોવું ક્યારે યોગ્ય છે અને ક્યારે પરિસ્થિતિને વિગતવાર અને કેન્દ્રિત ધ્યાનની જરૂર છે.
