Psychological Flexibility is the ability to recognize and adapt to fluctuating situational demands, modify feelings, perspectives and behaviour as required, and maintain a balance between competing desires, needs and life goals. It includes our ability to stay in touch with the present moment, being fully aware and accepting of our thoughts and feelings, including the undesired ones, and choosing our behaviour based on the situation and our personal values.

Psychological Flexibility is considered central to our daily well-being, adaptive functioning, and lasting psychological health.

Psychological Flexibility In Action

The person will be able to:

  • Adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Recognise and accept their thoughts and emotions, even the undesirable ones.
  • Make behavioural choices that are consistent with their personal values.
  • Maintain a balance between their various interests and desires.
  • Act on long-term values rather than short-term impulses.
  • Commit attention and energy to meaningful interests and values.
  • Regulate their attention and effort towards value-consistent goals, despite challenges.

सातत्याने बदलणाऱ्या परिस्थितीजन्य मागण्या ओळखण्याची आणि स्वीकारण्याची, भावनेत बदल करण्याची, आवश्यकतेप्रमाणे दृष्टिकोन आणि वर्तणूक बदलण्याची आणि स्पर्धात्मक इच्छा, गरजा आणि आयुष्यातील प्राधान्यक्रम यात संतुलन ठेवण्याची क्षमता म्हणजे मानसिक लवचिकता होय. परिस्थितीनुसार आणि आपल्यात खोलवर रुजलेली मूल्ये यावर आधारित वर्तणूकीची निवड करताना आपल्या भावना आणि विचार याबाबत संपूर्णतः जागरुक राहण्याच्या, अवांछित भावना आणि विचारासह सर्वांना स्वीकारण्याच्या क्षमतांचा यात समावेश होतो.   

मानसिक लवचिकता ही आपले दैनंदिन स्वास्थ्य, समायोजन तसेच मानसिक आरोग्य अबाधित ठेवण्याची क्षमता यांच्या केंद्रस्थानी असल्याचे मानले जाते. आपल्यातील गाभाभूत मूल्यांना प्रतिबिंबित करणाऱ्या ध्येयांप्रती वाटचाल करताना आपले लक्ष्य आणि प्रयत्न यांचे नियमन करण्याचे काम ही क्षमता करते

  • बदलत्या परिस्थितींशी जुळवून घेणे.
  • एखाद्याचे विचार आणि भावना स्वीकारार्ह नसल्या(न पटणार्‍या),तरीही मानसिक लवचिकतेमुळे त्यात सकारात्मक बदल करण्याच्या विश्वासाने त्या व्यक्तीचा स्वीकार
  • वैयक्तिक मूल्यांशी सुसंगत असणाऱ्या वर्तणूक पर्यायांची निवड करणे.
  • विविध रुची असणारे विषय आणि इच्छा या दोघांमध्ये संतुलन राखणे.
  • अल्पकालीन आवेगानुसार कृती करण्याऐवजी दीर्घकालीन मूल्यांनुसार कृती करणे.
  • अर्थपूर्ण रुची असणारे विषय आणि मूल्ये यांच्याशी लक्ष आणि उर्जा पातळीवर कटिबद्ध राहणे ((लक्ष केन्द्रित करणे).
  • अडीअडचणींचा विचार न करता मूल्याधारित ध्येयांवर प्रयत्नपूर्वक लक्ष केन्द्रित करणे

मनोवैज्ञानिक लचीलापन

मनोवैज्ञानिक लचीलापन उतारचढ़ाव वाली परिस्थितियों की माँग, बदलती भावनाएँ, दृष्टिकोण तथा व्यवहार के अनुसार व्यक्ति को उन्हें जानकर उससे सामंजस्य स्थापित करने तथा इच्छाओं, आवश्यकताओं तथा जीवन की प्राथमिकता के बीच संतुलन कायम रखने में सहायता करता है। यह अपनी भावनाओं और सोच को समझते हुए परिस्थितियों और मूल्यों के आधार पर अपना व्यवहार चुनने के साथ वर्तमान समय में रहने  की क्षमता विकसित करता है।

मनोवैज्ञानिक लचीलापन हमारे दैनिक कल्याण, मनोवैज्ञानिक स्वास्थ्य, एवं कार्य क्षमता के अनुकूल बदलता है। यह कौशल मूल्यों पर आधारित हमारे लक्ष्य को पूरा करने के लिए  हमारे प्रयत्न एवं ध्यान को नियमित करने में सहायक होता है।

मनोवैज्ञानिक लचीलापन इस कौशल के व्यवहार में

व्यक्ति यह करने में सक्षम हो सकेगा :
• बदलती परिस्थितियों के अनुसार अनुकूल बनना।
• अपने विचारों तथा भावनाओं को पहचानकर स्वीकारना चाहे वह अवांछनीय ही क्यों न हो ।
• व्यक्तिगत मूल्यों अनुरूप व्यावहारिक विकल्पों को बनाना।
• विभिन्न रूचियों तथा इच्छाओं के बीच संतुलन बनाना।
• अल्पकालिक आवेगों की अपेक्षा दीर्घकालीन मूल्यों पर काम करना।
• सार्थक मूल्यों तथा रूचियों पर अपना ध्यान और ऊर्जा लगाना।
• चुनौतियों के बावजूद भी मूल्यों पर आधारित लक्ष्यों को पूरा करने के लिए अपना ध्यान और प्रयास विनियमित करना।
