Delayed Gratification is the ability to resist the temptation for an immediate satisfaction in the hope of obtaining a valuable or personally satisfying reward in the long term. This requires the ability to attend to the intellectual aspects of the reward rather than the emotional aspects, foregoing immediate pleasures in the anticipation of a later prize. It is our ability to inhibit our impulses and exercise self-control, making us more accountable.

Delayed Gratification is an essential ingredient for cultivating healthy habits, nurturing self-discipline, building relationships with others, pursuing academic goals, sustaining a job and building a career. It also plays a key role in cooperative decision-making enhancing our ability to work together to attain commonly accepted goals.

Delayed Gratification In Action

The person will be able to:

  • Set and pursue long term goals.
  • Persist at learning or doing something even if it turns out to be difficult or challenging.
  • Make and follow through plans.
  • Prioritise others’ needs in relationships by deferring their own for the time being.

दीर्घावधीत मूल्यवान पुरस्कार किंवा वैयक्तिक पातळीवरील समाधान मिळवून देणाऱ्या पुरस्कार प्राप्तीची मानसिकता ठेऊन तात्कालिक स्वरूपाच्या मिळणाऱ्या समाधानाच्या मागे लागण्याच्या मोहाला थोपविण्याची क्षमता म्हणजेच विलंबित समाधान होय. पुढे जाऊन एखादा पुरस्कार मिळेल या अपेक्षेने तात्काळ मिळणाऱ्या समाधानाच्या मागे लागणे, पुरस्काराचे भावनिक पैलू या ऐवजी पुरस्काराच्या बौद्धीक पैलूंकडे लक्ष देण्याच्या क्षमतेची यात आवश्यकता असते. या क्षमतेमुळे आपल्या आवेगांना प्रतिबंध घालण्याची क्षमता विकसित होते आणि स्वनियंत्रणाचा वापर करता येतो, ज्याने आपण अधिक जबाबदार बनतो.

इसमें भविष्य में मिलने वाले लाभ की आशा में तत्काल लाभ को स्थगित करने की क्षमता है। यह क्षमता भावनात्मक पहलू की अपेक्षा बौद्धिक पहलू से ज्यादा सम्बंधित है। बाद में मिलने वाले लाभ की आशा में मिलने वाले तत्काल लाभ को छोड़ देते है। यह क्षमता हमारे आवेगो पर रोक लगाती है, आत्मनियंत्रण का अभ्यास कराती है तथा हमें ज्यादा जिम्मेदार बनाती है।

विलंबित संतुष्टि एक ऐसा महत्त्वपूर्ण धारक है जो अच्छी आदतों का निर्माण, स्व-अनुशासन, दूसरों के साथ स्वस्थ रिश्ते बनाना, शैक्षिक लक्ष्यपूर्ति नौकरी हासिल कर के उसे बनाये रखना आदि महत्वपूर्ण कार्य करती है। सामूहिक निर्णय क्षमता को बढ़ाकर समूह में एक साथ काम करना सीखाकर लक्ष्य को हासिल करने में यह क्षमता खास भूमिका निभाती है।

ವಿಳಂಬಿತ ತೃಪ್ತಿ ಕೌಶಲವು, ದೀರ್ಘಾವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮೌಲ್ಯಯುತ ಅಥವಾ ವೈಯಕ್ತಿಕ ತೃಪ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದುವ ಬಯಕೆಯಿಂದ, ಶೀಘ್ರ ತೃಪ್ತಿಯ ಭಾವವನ್ನು ತಡೆಯುವ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ , ನಂತರದ ಬಹುಮಾನದ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಕ್ಷಣದ ಸಂತೋಷವನ್ನು ಮುಂದಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡು, ಭಾವನಾತ್ಮಕ ಅಂಶಗಳಿಗಿಂತ ಬಹುಮಾನದ ಬೌದ್ಧಿಕ ಅಂಶಗಳಿಗೆ ಒತ್ತು ನೀಡುವ ಕೌಶಲ ಅವಶ್ಯಕವಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದು ನಮ್ಮ ಪ್ರಚೋದನೆಗಳನ್ನು ನಿಯಂತ್ರಿಸುವ ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ವಯಂ ನಿಯಂತ್ರಣವನ್ನು ಪ್ರದರ್ಶಿಸುವ ಮೂಲಕ ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಹೊಣೆಗಾರರನ್ನಾಗಿಸುವ  ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ.

ವಿಳಂಬಿತ ತೃಪ್ತಿ ಕೌಶಲವು ಆರೋಗ್ಯಕರ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸಗಳನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು, ಸ್ವಯಂ-ಶಿಸ್ತು ರೂಢಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು, ಇತರರೊಡನೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಗಳನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸಲು, ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಗುರಿಗಳನ್ನು ಸಾಧಿಸಲು, ಕೆಲಸ ಮುಂದುವರೆಸಲು ಮತ್ತು ವೃತ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಲು ಅವಶ್ಯಕವಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದು ಪರಸ್ಪರ ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಂಡ ಗುರಿಗಳನ್ನು ಸಾಧಿಸಲು ಜೊತೆಯಾಗಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುವ ಮೂಲಕ ಸಹಯೋಗಿತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ  ನಿರ್ಧಾರ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪಾತ್ರ ವಹಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

  • ಭವಿಷ್ಯವನ್ನು ನಿರೀಕ್ಷಿಸುವುದು ಮತ್ತು ಕಾಯುವಿಕೆಯ ದೀರ್ಘಾವಧಿ ಅನುಕೂಲಗಳನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸುವುದು 
  • ಕಷ್ಟಕರ ಅಥವಾ ಸವಾಲು ಎನಿಸಿದರೂ ಕಲಿಯುವ ಅಥವಾ ಏನಾದರೂ ಮಾಡುವ ಮೂಲಕ ನಿರಂತರ ಕಲಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗುವುದು 
  • ಉತ್ತೇಜನಗಳ ಹೊರತಾಗಿಯೂ ಆರೋಗ್ಯಕರ ವ್ಯಾಯಾಮ ಮತ್ತು ಆಹಾರದ ದಿನಚರಿಯನ್ನು ಅನುಸರಿಸುವುದು
