Ecological Literacy

Ecological Literacy refers to an understanding of our natural ecosystems and the ability to use this understanding for creating sustainable human societies without causing harm to the environment. It includes knowledge of the interconnectedness and interdependence of living and non-living systems around us and our symbiotic role as humans to preserve these systems.

Ecological Literacy is considered a necessary skill today when the conservation of earth’s natural resources has become an urgent priority for human society. This skill not only helps us to make environment-friendly choices in our daily lives but also purposefully reimagines and rebuilds our businesses and society at large in more sustainable ways.

Ecological Literacy In Action

The person will be able to:

  • Show curiosity and compassion for Nature and its varied ecosystems, and ask questions related to the availability of natural resources, their use and abuse
  • Recognise the fact that there can be no life without earth and its natural systems
  • Demonstrate concern, commitment and action towards causes related to the environment.
  • Take environment-friendly actions in their everyday lives like – waste segregation, not littering in public spaces, mindful usage of plastic products – including packaged food and water, mindful usage of water and electricity etc. 
  • Stay consistent with the environment-friendly choices they have made in their personal and professional lives.
  • Evaluate the use of natural resources and the possible harm caused to the environment due to various human decisions, choices and actions.
  • Innovate ideas and solutions that can help businesses, institutions and human communities at large to adopt sustainable modes of living.

पर्यावरणीय साक्षरता म्हणजे आपल्या नैसर्गिक परिसंस्थेबद्दल समजून घेणे आणि पर्यावरणाला हानी न पोहोचवता शाश्वत मानवी समाज निर्माण करण्यासाठी या समजुतीचा (माहितीचा आणि ज्ञानाचा) वापर करण्याची क्षमता होय. यामध्ये आपल्या सभोवतालच्या सजीव आणि निर्जीव प्रणालींच्या परस्परसंबंध आणि परस्पर अवलंबनाचे ज्ञान आणि या प्रणालींचे जतन करण्यासाठी मानव म्हणून आपली सहयोगी भूमिका समाविष्ट आहे.

पर्यावरणीय साक्षरता हे सध्या आवश्यक कौशल्य मानले जात आहे कारण पृथ्वीवरील नैसर्गिक संसाधनांचे संवर्धन हे मानवी समाजासाठी तातडीचे प्राधान्य बनले आहे. हे कौशल्य आपल्याला आपल्या दैनंदिन जीवनात पर्यावरण-अनुकूल निवडी करण्यास मदत करते, तसेच त्याद्वारे, आपण जाणीवपूर्वक आपल्या व्यवसायाची आणि समाजाची पुनर्रचना आणि पुनर्बांधणी अधिक टिकाऊ मार्गांनी करू शकतो.

पारिस्थितिक साक्षरता

पारिस्थितिक साक्षरता हमारे प्राकृतिक पारिस्थितिकी तंत्र के बारे में समझ और पर्यावरण को नुकसान पहुंचाए बिना स्थायी मानव समाज बनाने के लिए इस समझ का उपयोग करने की क्षमता को संदर्भित करती है। इसमें हमारे आस-पास जीवित और निर्जीव प्रणालियों की परस्पर निर्भरता और अन्योन्याश्रयता का ज्ञान और इन प्रणालियों को संरक्षित करने के लिए मनुष्य के रूप में हमारी सहयोगी भूमिका शामिल है।

पारिस्थितिक साक्षरता को वर्तमान समय में आवश्यक कौशल माना जाता है क्योंकि पृथ्वी के प्राकृतिक संसाधनों का संरक्षण मानव समाज के लिए तत्काल प्राथमिकता बन गया है। यह कौशल न केवल हमें अपने दैनिक जीवन में पर्यावरण के अनुकूल विकल्प बनाने में मदद करता है, बल्कि उद्देश्यपूर्ण ढंग से हमारे व्यवसायों और समाज की अधिक टिकाऊ तरीकों से पुनर्कल्पना और पुनर्निर्माण भी करता है।

  • अपने दैनिक जीवन में पर्यावरण के अनुकूल कार्य करने में सक्षम होंगे जैसे – कचरे को अलग करना, खुले स्थानों में कूड़ा न फैलाना, प्लास्टिक उत्पादों जैसे डिब्बाबंद खाद्य पदार्थों और पानी का सावधानीपूर्वक उपयोग, पानी और बिजली का ध्यानपूर्वक उपयोग आदि
  • अपने व्यक्तिगत और व्यावसायिक जीवन में पर्यावरण के अनुकूल विकल्पों के अनुरूप बने रहने में सक्षम होंगे।
  • विभिन्न मानवीय निर्णयों, विकल्पों और कार्यों के कारण प्राकृतिक संसाधनों के उपयोग और पर्यावरण को होने वाले संभावित नुकसान का मूल्यांकन करने में सक्षम होंगे।
  • ऐसे विचारों और समाधानों को खोजने में सक्षम होंगे  जो व्यवसायों, संस्थानों और मानव समुदायों को बड़े पैमाने पर जीवन जीने के स्थायी तरीके अपनाने में मदद कर सकें।

નિવસનતંત્રની સાક્ષરતા એ આપણી કુદરતી નિવસનતંત્રની સમજ અને પર્યાવરણને નુકસાન પહોંચાડ્યા વિના ટકાઉ માનવ સમાજ બનાવવા માટે આ સમજનો ઉપયોગ કરવાની ક્ષમતાનો સંદર્ભ આપે છે. તેમાં આપણી આસપાસની જીવંત અને નિર્જીવ પ્રણાલીઓના પરસ્પર જોડાણ તથા આપણી આસપાસની જીવંત અને નિર્જીવ પ્રણાલીઓની પરસ્પર નિર્ભરતા અને આ પ્રણાલીઓને સાચવવા માટે માનવ તરીકેની આપણી સહજીવન ભૂમિકા.

ಪರಿಸರ ಸಾಕ್ಷರತೆಯು ನಮ್ಮ ನೈಸರ್ಗಿಕ ಪರಿಸರ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಯನ್ನು ಅರ್ಥಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ, ಮತ್ತು ಪರಿಸರಕ್ಕೆ ಹಾನಿಯುಂಟು ಮಾಡದೇ ನಿರಂತರ ಮಾನವ ಸಮಾಜಗಳನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಿ ಅರ್ಥೈಸುವ ಕೌಶಲವಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ  ನಮ್ಮ ಸುತ್ತಲಿನ ಸಜೀವ ಮತ್ತು ನಿರ್ಜೀವ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಗಳ ನಡುವಿನ ಪರಸ್ಪರ ಸಂಬಂಧ ಮತ್ತು ಪರಸ್ಪರ ಅವಲಂಬನೆಯ ಜ್ಞಾನ ಹಾಗೂ ಈ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂರಕ್ಷಿಸಲು ಮಾನವರಾಗಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಪಾತ್ರ ಒಳಗೊಂಡಿದೆ.

ಭೂಮಿಯ ನೈಸರ್ಗಿಕ ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂರಕ್ಷಿಸುವುದು ಮಾನವ ಸಮಾಜದ ಇಂದಿನ ಆದ್ಯತೆಯಾಗಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಪರಿಸರ ಸಾಕ್ಷರತೆಯು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಅವಶ್ಯಕ ಕೌಶಲವಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಕೌಶಲವು ನಮ್ಮ ದೈನಂದಿನ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಪರಿಸರ-ಸ್ನೇಹಿ ಆಯ್ಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡಲು ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡುವುದಲ್ಲದೇ, ನಮ್ಮ ವ್ಯಾಪಾರಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಸಮಾಜವನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ನಿರಂತರ ವಿಧಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪುನರ್ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ಮಾಡಲು ಸಹಾಯಕವಾಗಿದೆ.

ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯು ಈ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗುವುದು:

  • ಪರಸರ ಮತ್ತು ಅದರ ಇತರ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದಂತೆ ಕುತೂಹಲ ಮತ್ತು ಸಹಾನುಭೂತಿ ತೋರಿಸುವುದು, ಮತ್ತು ನೈಸರ್ಗಿಕ ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲಗಳ ಲಭ್ಯತೆ, ಅವುಗಳ ಬಳಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ದುರ್ಬಳಕೆಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದಂತೆ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕೇಳುವುದು 
  • ಭೂಮಿ ಮತ್ತು ಅದರ ನೈಸರ್ಗಿಕ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಗಳಿಲ್ಲದೇ ಜೀವನ ಇರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ ಎನ್ನುವ ಅಂಶವನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸುವುದು 
  • ಪರಿಸರ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಕಾಳಜಿ, ಬದ್ಧತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾತಕ್ಷತೆಗೊಳಿಸುವುದು 
  • ತಮ್ಮ ದೈನಂದಿನ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಪರಿಸರ-ಸ್ನೇಹಿ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳನ್ನು ಅಳವಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು – ತ್ಯಾಜ್ಯ ವಿಂಗಡಣೆ, ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕಸ ಹಾಕದಿರುವುದು, ಪ್ಯಾಕ್  ಮಾಡಿದ ಆಹಾರ ಮತ್ತು ನೀರನ್ನು ಒಳಗೊಂಡ ಪ್ಲಾಸ್ಟಿಕ್ ಉತ್ಪನ್ನಗಳ ನಿಯಮಿತ ಬಳಕೆ, ನೀರು ಮತ್ತು ವಿದ್ಯುಚ್ಛಕ್ತಿಯ ನಿಯಮಿತ ಬಳಕೆ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ
  • ತಮ್ಮ ವೈಯಕ್ತಿಕ ಹಾಗೂ ವೃತ್ತಿಪರ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ತಾವು ಮಾಡಿದ ಪರಿಸರ-ಸ್ನೇಹಿ ಆಯ್ಕೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಬದ್ಧರಾಗಿರುವುದು 
  • ನೈಸರ್ಗಿಕ ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲಗಳ ಬಳಕೆ ಮತ್ತು ವಿವಿಧ ಮಾನವನ ನಿರ್ಧಾರಗಳು, ಆಯ್ಕೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳಿಂದ ಪರಿಸರಕ್ಕೆ ಆಗುವ ಸಂಭಾವ್ಯ ಹಾನಿಯನ್ನು ಮೌಲ್ಯಾಂಕಿಸುವುದು  
  • ನಿರಂತರವಾಗಿ ಜೀವನ ಮಟ್ಟವನ್ನು ಕಾಯ್ದುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ವ್ಯಾಪಾರಗಳು, ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಮಾನವ ಸಮುದಾಯಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಹಾಯಕವಾಗುವಂತ ಸೃಜನಾತ್ಮಕ ಕಲ್ಪನೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಪರಿಹಾರಗಳನ್ನು ಕಂಡುಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು
